‘Hospitality, Community and Welcome: Researching working lives, representations and everyday realities of migrants’
We are pleased to announce that the next RSA MICaRD research network event will be hosted by Lincoln International Business School (University of Lincoln, UK) on 29-30th September 2022.
This symposium aims to bring together researchers with a shared interest in exploring contemporary issues in migration and mobilities. We seek to build a community of scholars where we can make linkages across disciplinary, geographic and cultural boundaries. We invite you to join us for an event aiming for an interdisciplinary dialogue around the complexities, challenges and futures of migration and mobilities.
The theme of this symposium is around (in)hospitality and (un)welcome. Welcome is ‘a form of social oil and is at the heart of making societies function in a healthy and effective fashion’ (Lynch, 2017, p. 182). We wish to explore the multiple and complex layers and manifestations of welcome and hospitality in migrants’ everyday lives and realities. We invite conceptual, empirical and methodological contributions within the following themes:
- Voice
- Power
- Representation
- Place
- Work
- Future
- Identity
- Community
- Intersectionality
